Getting to Milan

ARRIVING

The city has three airports: Malpensa (MXP), Linate (LIN), and Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY).

From the main train stations, domestic and international connections are available.

Milano is also a crossroad of highways headed in several directions.

BY PLANE

Milano is served by 3 airports: Malpensa (MXP, 45 Km from the city centre), Linate (LIN, 7 Km from the city centre) and Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY, 50 Km from the city centre).

BY TRAIN

Milano, at the crossroad of the national and European railway system, can be reached from the main Italian cities via high-speed trains (the Frecce of Trenitalia and ItaloTreno) and Intercity trains. It is also an important crossroad for regional connections.

The main stations are:

Stazione Centrale FS – piazza Duca d’Aosta connection with underground lines M2 M3 where the main trains traveling abroad are also departing from. At the Stazione Centrale there is a luggage storage, as well as several services and a big shopping area

Stazione Porta Garibaldi FS – piazza S. Freud – connection with underground lines M2 and M5

Stazione Cadorna FN – piazzale Cadorna – piazzale Cadorna connection with underground lines M2 and M1

Stazione Rogoredo FS – Via Cassinis – connection with underground line M3

GETTING AROUND

Milano offers various alternatives to move around. The city’s surface is not very vast, it is a plain area and this makes it easy to travel, by foot as well as by other means of transportation.

Milano is served by five subway lines.

  • Red Line M1: Sesto F.S. – Rho Fiera Milano / Bisceglie
  • Green Line M2: Gessate / Cologno Nord – Assago Milanofiori Forum / P.za Abbiategrasso Chiesa Rossa
  • Yellow Line M3: Comasina – San Donato
  • Blue Line M4 (under construction): from November 26th, 2022 are open the first 6 stops from Linate Airport to Dateo
  • Lilac Line M5: Bignami Parco Nord – San Siro Stadio

The system is supplemented by the Passante underground rail link which connects urban and suburban railway stations to the subway network.
